Hospitality recruitment in the UK could be in for a positive year after accountancy firm PKF revealed the hotel sector performed admirably over April despite tough macroeconomic conditions and inclement weather.
London hotels enjoyed a 9.7 per cent year-on-year increase in room yield through a combination of increased rates and a growth in occupancy levels.
Hotels in the region also posted an impressive recovery after a dismal winter season, with room yield jumping by 3.7 per cent to reach £39.27.
Robert Barnard, partner for hotel consultancy services at PKF, described these figures as a "stellar set of results" given the weak economic conditions and lack of consumer confidence in the UK.

Hotel jobs have been created in Birmingham through the redevelopment and expansion of hospitality and wedding venue Hogarths.
The establishment has enjoyed a significant growth in customer numbers over the last eight years, according to owner Helena Hogarth.
It has now added 32 bedrooms, improved its dining facilities and enhanced the conference facilities available, reports the Birmingham Post.

Rossopomodoro, the largest pizza brand in Italy, currently has three outlets in London as well as a concessionary branch in Birmingham's Selfridges.

An initiative called The Pub is the Hub is to be undertaken by East Riding Council in a bid to encourage people to make use of their local bar.
Karen Wood, rural communities officer, told the Yorkshire Post the council is looking forward to supporting licensees by working with the charity.

The Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) has announced a partnership with W Denis aimed at offering eateries with good green credentials an insurance premium which reflects their commitment to sustainability.
It is part of a drive to make sustainable development more appealing to people in chef jobs and is the first policy of its kind in the UK, with the deal only available to members of the SRA.
