Seventh Hotel & Catering Personnel & Training Association Awards for Excellence

For the seventh year running Members of HCPTA and their guests gathered at a top London hotel to recognise and celebrate excellence in human resources in the hospitality industry. This year the venue was the ballroom of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Hyde Park Hotel. The themes of the evening were excellence and all things oriental.

Before sitting down to a sumptuous dinner featuring oriental dishes, the gathering of 150 people cheered and clapped as the Awards were presented. HCPTA Chair Fiona Rassell of STORM Training & Development and Liam Lambert, General Manager of The Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Hyde Park, hosted the proceedings.

The Awards judging panel - Mike Boella, University of Brighton; Liam Lambert, Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park; Diana Warren, representing CIPD; and John Wright of Bass Hotels and Resorts introduced the short-listed nominees and explained the criteria on which the selections had been made and the winners judged.

As in previous years the judges emphasised that their scrutiny had been rigorous and so reaching the short-list was in itself an achievement worthy of hearty congratulations. Representatives from the Award sponsors - The Cullen Scholefield Group, Graphico Hcareers.co.uk and Profile International, carried out the presentation of the awards. The winners of the distinctive star-shaped Tiffany trophies, cheques for £500 and a subscription to Croners were:

• Steve Munkley, Executive Chef, The Royal Garden Hotel - for Excellence by an Operations/Line Manager who has made a Significant Contribution to HR, sponsored by Profile International
• Glenn Jones & Jane Cowley, The City of London Club - for Excellence in Training and Development, sponsored by The Cullen Scholefield Group.
• Tracy Robbins, Quality & HR Director, Forte Group & Jason Fox, HR Manager, Thistle Hotel, Brighton for Excellence in Human Resources, sponsored by Hcareers.co.uk

The HCPTA Special Achievement Award went to Mike Boella, Principal Lecturer, Brighton University
